The “So what” upfront that I will say about Mr. Matthew Adkins (And the entire firm) is that he took my case in a less than conventional way, and he made a personal effort to ensure I was informed and taken care of throughout our case. He didn’t unnecessarily charge me for his time, helped me understand the “game plan”, but kept me grounded throughout and ensured I didn’t allow my emotions to cloud the process. For the other incredible attorneys that make up the law firm (Limited to my personal exposure) Mr. Lloyd Murray is an amazingly caring individual that makes you feel welcomed immediately and knows a court room. Mr. Matthew Adkins is quick thinking, sharp witted, and will always make sure you are informed. Ms. Sawyer Martin is caring, thoughtful, and intelligent in all that she does while supporting her clients. Bottomline: If you need family law support in the Bryan County area – Call the law firm of Murray & Adkins first. For those of you that prefer to know “what can they really do for me” please read on. What was I doing: Changing custody arrangements. Redefining visitation. Child support. My case had been on going for quite some time (3 years) with a very reputable attorney that had to unfortunately hand off my case to another law firm. Thankfully when this attorney did so, he handed me over to Mr. Adkins and Ms. Sawyer. They quickly contacted me after receiving/accepting the case. By this point I was living across the country, life had happened, and the dynamics of my personal situation had changed from the point of the original circumstances of my divorce. My previous lawyer knew all the gritty details and I thought to myself, “Well these guys are never going to want to catch up and understand how my kids and I got to where we are now”. I could not have been more wrong!! Ms. Sawyer setup a time for me to be able to video conference them and walk them through my story!! They understood the situation, asked the right questions to make me feel comfortable, and gave me a real sense of “Okay. They got this”. The case required me to fly back to Georgia multiple times to complete the process of changing out custody and re-negotiating the required visitation. Each time I was about to fly back they would make an effort to setup a short conference call beforehand to allow us all an opportunity to collectively discuss what we anticipated happening in our next court appearance. Absolutely lowered the anxiety of flying out there and then having to walk right into a courtroom after doing so. The final time that we had to appear in court, I was deployed to the Middle East and the opposing party tried to force the timing. Mr. Adkins and the rest of the amazing team worked with the court to adjust the appearance date so that I could physically be there and not something virtual. This action, I believe, made a huge difference in the outcome of our case. I am incredibly grateful to Mr. Murray, Mr. Adkins, Ms. Martin, and the ENTIRE team there in Richmond Hill, GA. Even if things had not turned out in the best favor of my children, I still believe I would be thanking them. Taking care of clients is what they do. That makes a huge difference. My whole family is grateful to them all. Thank you.

Matt was the oldest of five boys raised in rural West Virginia. He attended college at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, before starting a family and enlisting in the United States Army. He served for ten years on active duty under the 101st Airborne Division and deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was awarded a Bronze Star in recognition of his meritorious service in combat. Before attending law school, he served as a Drill Sergeant for 15 months before being selected to serve as an instructor at the United States Army Drill Sergeant Academy at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where he trained NCOs to become Drill Sergeants.

After making the transition out of the Army and immediately into The University of South Carolina’s School of Law, Matt began practicing in the South Carolina lowcountry. During that time, he became proficient in several areas of law and gained trial experience in felony criminal trials, including Court-Martial at Parris Island, South Carolina, as well as serving as counsel in several personal injury cases. Matt became an attorney to go to trial, and that is his practice focus.

In 2019, he made a move down the coast from South Carolina to Georgia, where he worked for an international civil defense firm in Savannah and continued to hone his skills and experience personal injury law from the defense perspective. Here, he represented insurance companies against the people. It wasn’t long before he joined The Murray Firm and made personal injury law his primary focus. In 2022, he became a Partner in The Murray Firm, and Murray & Adkins was established, continuing the traditions that Lloyd D. Murray Sr. and The Murray Firm has cultivated since 1978.

Today, Matt and Lloyd are a trial team well known to District Attorneys and Civil Defense attorneys state-wide. This gives the opposing party a tough choice – either resolve the case in favor of his client or take the case to trial and prepare for a long and difficult battle with an experienced trial team.
